I'm Osama bin Laden, and I Approved This Message

When you consider the fact that the invasion and occupation of Iraq played perfectly into the hand of Osama bin Laden and his radical followers it is hard to believe that Al Qaeda would prefer Kerry over Bush.

Why would they?

Al Qaeda certainly are not "rooting" for Kerry to win, but arguing that they wouldn't love a Bush defeat really doesn't wash.

All this amounts to little, anyway, but trying to present that Al Qaeda is "rooting" for a Bush victory is folly, IMO.

My personal opinion is that Al Qaeda could not care less. They attacked us during the Clinton administration and they attacked us during the Bush administration. They will continue to attack us whenever and wherever they please. Contrary to Sean Hannity type reasoning they are not "bogged down" in the Middle East as evidenced by their attacks in Madrid. Terrorists blew up the Marine barracks during the Reagan administration and held hostages for over 400 days during the Carter administration. I feel sure that they would derive some satisfaction if Bush loses the election but not because they think that American foreign policy is going to change in the least little bit under Kerry.

That was what I was attempting to say, but you put it succinctly with the last sentence.

Scrutiny Hooligans assert, "George W. Bush and his brazenly militant administration seek not an end to the war, but an expansion of it."

Kamal Kharrazi nails it with this quote.

“The idea of a balance of power may have held weight when two super powers existed, he (Iran's foreign minister Kamal Kharrazi) said, "but today, the international community needs to recognize and acknowledge that other forces have begun to dominate." These forces can inflict massive harm, he said, referring to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and the Bali and Madrid bombings. Rather than battle these new forces within the old framework -- military threats, sanctions and embargoes -- we must adopt a paradigm conducive to dialogue and understanding, he said.”
If only our President was as intelligent and forward thinking as the Iranian foreign minister.
"George W. Bush and his brazenly militant administration seek not an end to the war, but an expansion of it."
There is no doubt in my mind about this. I think all of the current talk of pulling out is just election year nonsense. After his re-election the Bush administration will without a doubt raise the price of poker in the Middle East.
Remember - There will not be a draft under John Kerry. Bush has made no such promise.
I seem to remember Bush saying that his would be a kinder and gentler foreign policy before the election. What a politician says and what a politician does rarely bear even the slightest resemblance after an election. Power is a most intoxicating elixir. You can bet that regardless of who our next President is he will do whatever he does with a nod and a wink from Congress.

Concerning no draft under Kerry I found the following statement rather thought provoking:

Rumors are spreading wildly that the military draft is coming back, and will include women and well as men. Grabbing the issue and running with it, the Kerry campaign has raised the specter of young Americans being hauled out of college and sent off to die in a senseless war.

But wait a minute. The guys calling for the draft in Congress are all Democrats. In the Senate, Ernest Hollings, Democrat of South Carolina a hawk, has introduced the legislation, while Charles Rangel, the ultra-liberal black Democratic Congressman from Harlem, has introduced it in the House because he thinks more whites should be getting shot at, a matter of equal protection. So when John Edwards gets up and says to a hooting crowd, "There will be no draft in a Kerry administration," this has got to be chutzpah at its most extreme, since the Democratic legislation also requires Canada to return fleeing draft evaders

Puts things in a different light wouldn't you think?
