Morality or Hypocrisy?

from - Buck

The Boston Globe takes issue with Southern claims of hyper-morality.

And Jeffrey Tucker over at Lew's Blog has this amusing definition......

MORAL VALUES: what voters tell pollsters they care about when unemployment is at 5.4%, the stock market is rising, the Fed is holding interest rates at 1%, and no one has the stomach to look at the massacre being carried out in a foreign land by their own government.

I've always found it ironic that those evil liberals are the ones who encourage marriage and want it to be available to everyone, while the family values crowd is desperately trying to shut people out of it.

Buck, check out your sources a little better. Here is what the George Barna Research Group actually said:

Born again Christians are equally likely to be divorced as non born again Christians.

Here is what the Boston Globe reported:

The AP report stated that "the divorce rates in these conservative states are roughly 50 percent above the national average of 4.2 per thousand people."

But here is the clincher!! The Barna research group did a telephone survey to reach their conclusions. There is no way that true statistics can be arrived by a telephone survey. I am not arguing about the percent of Christians who have divorced. I think it is high. The thing you have to watch is how the survey was done and the terminology that was used. According to Barna, Catholics were not considered Christians unless they use the term "born again." You can prove nearly anything you set out to prove if you are more interested in an outcome than you are the truth.

You are correct Goldie. We are currently fighting a war because nobody was interested in the truth.

Religioustolerance.org broke down some of Barna's findings into easily digestible bits. Here's their chart:
Jews 30%
Born-again Christians 27%
Other Christians 24%
Atheists, Agnostics 21%

Of course, I'm among that 21% who have been divorced as an atheist/agnostic. However, being re-married, I don't have the slightest intention of finding myself a repeat offender if at all possible.
