A Chattanoogan We Should All Be Proud Of

Tennessee Liberal has the scoop...

Even if he did make the absurd-sounding statement that we've had "not enough [Andrew] Jackson's"... That wasn't how he meant it.

For Tennessee Democrats, the legacy of Andrew Jackson is an incredible internal struggle. In the end, he was the President of the people. That means populism and a fight for the average person's rights, but it also meant trampling on others to do that.

I think we're all slowly coming around to being able to honor what made Andy Jackson great, while ackowledging that as great as he could be, he could be just as bad in equal measure.

I am thoroughly interested to read Meacham's book about Jackson, though. If anyone can parse the meaning of Jackson, especially to Tennessee and and the South, it's him.

Thanks for the link, btw!
